Long before the term “Astro Tourism” entered the global travel lexicon, African communities had been reading the stars, mapping the skies, and using celestial knowledge to guide agriculture, rituals, and movement. Today, that deep-rooted relationship between humanity and the cosmos is being reawakened, this time as a powerful lever for tourism, education, and sustainable economic growth.

As part of the newly launched global brand campaign, “South Africa Awaits – Come Find Your Joy!”, South African Tourism brought the campaign message to life through an immersive activations centred on fashion and wine, two signature pillars of the country’s cultural and destination expression.

The African continent’s premier travel and tourism trade show, Africa’s Travel Indaba 2025 offcially opened its doors today at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Running from May 13-15 under the resonant theme “Unlimited Africa”, the event was officially opened by South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile and South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille, signalling a powerful, unifi ed drive to showcase the continent’s boundless tourism potential and declare Africa open for global business.

Welcome to the 2025 edition of Africa’s Travel Indaba — once again hosted in the vibrant and hospitable city of Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal. This landmark event continues to serve as a powerful platform for unlocking Africa’s tourism potential, establishing meaningful partnerships and driving sustainable economic growth across the continent.

Domestic travel has far exceeded the 2019 numbers, and at the same time, international arrivals in South Africa are inching closer to pre-pandemic levels as calls mount for the industry to redefi ne the travel experience and pull together to sustain the momentum of resurgence.

The 2024 instalment of the continent’s premier travel trade show, Africa’s Travel Indaba, kicked off on a high note at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre on Tuesday, with the Trade Floor opening that was attended by delegates ready to do business.
