Find new stories at Africa's Travel Indaba

11 April 2018

Only 4 weeks till the world's biggest African travel trade show, Africa's Travel Indaba.

Africa is a continent of stories and the Africa Travel Indaba is the perfect platform for you to hear and then share these stories to the world. With travel experiences from 21 African countries on offer and an exciting line up of small travel businesses, you will find a plethora of stories to tell at this year's Africa Travel Indaba, including those around Mandela's Centenary. As storytellers, we invite you to consider joining one of our panels and don't forget to also have a little fun and enjoy one of Durban's many attractions.

If you haven't yet registered for media accreditation yet - there is still time - act now - click here.

It's a centenary celebration
Experience Nelson Mandela's Centenary year with 100 Madiba experiences at this year's show. South African Tourism will be showcasing their expanded Madiba's Journey App, which will now feature 100 tourist experiences and make a note to join the opening cocktails on Tuesday 8 May.

DID YOU KNOW: The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) reported that in 2017 the number of international travellers reached over 1.3 billion - the highest ever - yet of these Africa only received 62 million or a 5% share. By sharing the stories of quality, affordable, immersive and safe experiences in Africa, we know we can double this figure. Africa as a destination is already growing above the global rate of growth (8% in 2017) and is poised to unleash its potential. There will be interview opportunities with policy leaders and thinkers to take this dialogue further. Make sure you are registered and accredited now.

With products from 21 countries already confirmed to exhibit, this year's Africa's Travel Indaba will provide many opportunities to engage and find new angles and ideas to share with your audiences. Media are encouraged to use the online diary system, where you can request a meeting with those exhibitors you'd like to pitch a story to, or those you'd like to interview onsite.

Fun in the sun
Durban is the self-styled playground of South Africa so take advantage of the many pleasures the city has to offer. From beautiful golden beaches, to an adrenalin bungee swing at 80m, or enjoy the world class water park at uShaka Marine World. Indulge in the mixture of cuisine - from curries, seafood and fusion food on offer. For inspiration: log onto www.shotleft.co.za and www.visitdurban.travel

Say it out loud!
Africa's Travel Indaba is a great opportunity for the industry and its stakeholders to come together and discuss the issues and opportunities facing the industry. As a member of the media, we value your insights into the industry and would love to hear them and so we encourage you to be in the audience for our Business Conversations - but you may also like to be a panellist:

  • Optimising economic transformation in the African tourism industry.
  • African Tourism and the 4th industrial revolution.
  • Responsible Tourism - enabling sustainable practices as the new normal in Africa.
  • Strategies to maximise youth employment and leadership in the African tourism industry.

To be a panellist submit your name and a brief biography to Thandiwe@southafrica.net before Friday 13 April 2018.

Revealing more Hidden Gems
